Dubstep music was one of the first genres of music to emerge in the 21st century, having developed right around the start of the new millennium. It was primarily influenced by the Grime and 2-Step scenes popular in the United Kingdom at the end of the 1990s and early 2000s and has also integrated elements of breakbeat and drum & bass music.
